Growing up in a small town in Colorado, Nick's early understanding of his Mexican heritage was limited. He recalls, “The closest I ever felt to understanding my Mexican heritage was when we went for burritos at Taco Bell after school.” However, this perspective shifted dramatically when he moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, where he immersed himself in the culture.
In Guadalajara, Nick found himself welcomed by a host family who introduced him to Mexican traditions. He states, “A Mexican wedding is both the most beautiful and the most fun I've had in a single day.” The culinary delights, like tacos al pastor with agua de jamaica, and cultural celebrations, such as Día de los Muertos, opened his eyes to the rich diversity within Latinx culture.
